BANGALORE: The air-conditioned double decker train between Chennai and Bangalore is set to start its commercial operation from Thursday. The train will leave from Chennai at 7.25am and reach Bangalore at 1.30pm. During the return journey, it will depart from Bangalore City station at 2.40 pm and reach Chennai at 8.25pm.
The much-anticipated 10-coach chair car was announced in the 2011-12 rail budget, but the plan took off only after the announcement of the 2013-14 rail budget. The train is scheduled almost on the same time and route of the popular Chennai-Bangalore-Chennai Brindavan Express. Advance booking for the train started on Tuesday.
The train will stop at Arakkonam, Katpadi, Ambur, Perambur, Jolarpettai, Bangarapet, Krishnarajapuram and Bangalore Cantonment. The fare for a one-way journey is around Rs 440.
However, South Western Railway authorities are neither informed of the train's commercial operations nor about the advance booking because of the enforcement of the model code of conduct in Karnataka.
